UP Police Constable Re-exam Underway: All About Paper Leak And New Measures
The re-exam is being held after the paper got cancelled due to a question paper leak in February.

The Uttar Pradesh Police Constable Recruitment Exam 2024 commenced from August 23 and will last till August 31. It will be held at 1,174 centres across the state. The stakes are high for the state government as the re-exam is being held after the paper got cancelled due to a question paper leak in February. Proper biometric verification including fingerprint and facial recognition, CCTV cameras and jammers among others. Previously, the Uttar Pradesh Police Constable Recruitment Exam 2024 was conducted in four shifts on February 17 and 18. On February 24, the state government cancelled the exams due to a question paper leak. A re-examination was ordered to be conducted within six months, along with the highest standards of fairness and transparency, along with strict rules to ensure a proper examination without any cheating.

At least 178 FIRS in 41 districts of UP were registered in case of exam paper leak in February. Around 400 people, including two alleged masterminds named Rajiv Nayan Mishra and Ravi Attri, were arrested from Gautam Buddh Nagar.

The country is still reeling from the irregularities faced by to-be medical candidates as they took the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) and University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) exams. The National Testing Agence underwent a change of leadership and the case was handed over to CBI. Finally, on June 13, the Supreme Court mandated a re-test which was held on June 23.

Previously Uttar Pradesh Police constable recruitment used to take place only after the whole matter got a green signal from the High Court and the Supreme Court. Despite that, even after recruitment, examination and all the investigations, the whole process used to get cancelled due to irregularities in the exams. Over the years, cases of paper leaks, impersonating a candidate to take the exam and various other irregularities have taken place across the country.

To ensure proper examination the UP government has taken careful and strict measures to uphold the sanctity and transparency of the exam. Static Magistrates have been stationed at each centre, physical frisking, security checks with hand-held metal detectors (HHMD), and biometric verification like fingerprint and facial recognition have been arranged.

In circumstances where facial recognition is not possible, a Facial Recognition Image System (FRIS) has been set up. In case of doubts, an Aadhaar card authentication will be conducted to confirm the candidate’s identity. Along with this, jammers have been deployed to prevent the usage of electronic devices like mobile phones and Bluetooth. Exam halls will be monitored by CCTV cameras with live feeds being sent to control rooms. Further, officers ranging from deputy Superintendents of Police to Sub Inspectors have been deployed for supervision of centres.
