India is the best place for students to pursue higher education because of its numerous educational institutions and long tradition of academic success. But choosing wisely becomes difficult for candidates because there are so many esteemed universities and institutions offering a wide range of courses, cutting-edge facilities, and other benefits.

This is where the Government of India’s National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) comes into play, which was created to assess the nation’s higher education institutions’ quality of learning based on predetermined standards.  The NIRF Rankings for 2024 was released today, August 12 and have been made available at nirfindia.org.

This year, Hindu College in New Delhi secured the first rank in the “college” category, knocking Miranda House out of first position from last year. Three of the top slots were taken by New Delhi-based colleges, with St. Stephen’s College coming in third.

Here’s taking a look at the top 10 colleges in the rankings for 2024:

Rank 1: Hindu College, Delhi

Rank 2: Miranda House, Delhi

Rank 3: St. Stephens’s College, Delhi

Rank 4: Rama Krishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary College, Kolkata

Rank 5: Atma Ram Sanatan Dharm College, Delhi

Rank 6: St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata

Rank 7: PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, Coimbatore

Rank 8: Loyola College, Chennai

Rank 9: Kirori Mal College, Delhi

Rank 10: Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi

Every year, the NIRF provides effective counsel to all students preparing for college admissions through the annual updating of the rankings of the major colleges under consideration.

The NIRF rankings, instituted by the Narendra Modi government in 2016, is India’s sole university rating methodology. 8,686 submissions in total were filed for the rankings last year, as opposed to 7,254 in 2022.  Higher Education Institutes were assessed in 16 categories, including overall, medical, state, skill, engineering, architecture, colleges, management, law, and open universities, in the 2024 rankings. This year, the number of ranking categories has grown from 13 to 16.
