'When I go to Bat I Think I am the Best', Says PBKS' Shashank Singh After Heroic Knock Against GT
Shashank starred in Punjab Kings' 3-wicket win over Gujarat Titans at Ahmedabad with an unbeaten 61-run knock after the Punjab top order had collapsed.

Punjab Kings picked up their second win of the ongoing IPL 2024 season with an astounding win over Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

PBKS managed to successfully chase down the target of 200 in 19.5 overs as Shashank Singh starred with an unbeaten 61-run knock after the Punjab top order had collapsed.

Shashank came in with Punjab reeling at 70/ in 8.4 overs with all their big names back in the hut already and proceeded to play a memorable innings that took the Preity Zinta-owned side over the line.

Shashank was presented with the Player of the Match award for his sterling performance on the day and he said that he was proud of his effort.

“Still trying to sink in,” Shashank began his acceptance speech following the conclusion of the game.

The 32-year-old said that he visualised such heroic moments before the game, but the fact that it turned into reality made his chest swell with pride.

“Visualised all these things, but it was incredible when it turned into reality. I’m proud of the effort,” he said.

Shashank, who was slated to come in at No.7, was promoted up the order and was advised by the coach to play on the merit of the ball, an assignment the batter carried out to perfection.

“The coach told me to react to the ball and to play on the merit of the delivery,” he revealed.

Shubman Gill headlined GT’s innings with an unbeaten 89-run innings, but Shashank stole the thunder as he led his team to the win.

Shashank opined that the wicket was good on the day and it was ratified by the number of runs scored by both side.

“The wicket is very good, the bounce was good. 200 scored by both teams, so the wicket was fantastic,” the 32-year-old added.

Shashank faced a quality GT bowling unit boasting the likes of Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmed, Azmatullah Omarzai and Mohit Sharma to name a few, but the batter said that his mindset helped him produce the memorable innings.

“They are the legends of the game, but when I go to bat I think I am the best,” he explained.

The PBKS batter has been around for a while now but has had to wait for his big break. He expressed that he felt supported by the Punjab side and that boosted his confidence.

“You get experience with time, but I couldn’t get a lot of matches before. Here the owners and coaching staff backed me and as a result I was confident,” he signed off!
