A warm interaction between Smriti Mandhana and Indian women’s team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has sent fans on a nostalgic trip. India faced South Africa in the second ODI in Bengaluru yesterday. The duo notched centuries in the game to seal a narrow four-run victory. In that game, Mandhana dismissed the South Africa’s Sune Luus to scalp her first ODI wicket. After the game, Mandhana and Harmanpreet discussed the wicket in an interview, reminding fans of the bond between MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. In a fan-uploaded video on X (formerly Twitter), Harmanpreet asked, “What was your favourite moment in the game, the century or the wicket?” Mandhana jokingly replied, “First you tell me, what was yours?”

In the interview, Harmanpreet revealed how Mandhana had constantly requested her for an opportunity to bowl. “In the last batting camp that we attended, all of us did a lot of bowling. And since then, she has been constantly asking me to give her an over. And the moment I get a wicket I will run across the whole ground. But she could only manage to celebrate in half the ground because she had gotten tired,” the Indian skipper said.
Mandhana also got on the microphone and discussed the toil and practice that goes into every game. Addressing the efforts, Mandhana asked, “You came to bat this morning. People only see the match, we get out and people criticise, we perform well and people appreciate. But you know that hard work behind the scenes, that goes unnoticed. So you coming early and batting one hour during practice, how important was that?”
Harmanpreet agreed and revealed how the practice session did help her with confidence. “Yeah I think, when I came in the morning to bat for an hour, it did give me a lot of confidence,” Harmanpreet said.
Already leading the ODI series 2-0, India will next face South Africa in the final game on Sunday, June 23, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
