The Kolkata Knight Riders were on the receiving end of some brutal displays of powerhitting by the Punjab Kings at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata as the visitors managed to chase down a mammoth score of 262 runs thanks to the heroics from Jonny Bairstow, Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh to lead the epic fightback.
Earlier in the first innings, KKR’s mentor and former two-time title-winning skipper, Gautam Gambhir was involved in a heated argument with the umpire and the video was shared on social media.
The incident occurred in the final delivery of the 14th which Rahul Chahar bowled. Russell looked to take the single but was forced to run back into the crease. But the throw from Ashutosh Sharma was a tad wide to the wicketkeeper, Jitesh Sharma.

The KKR batters looked to capitalise on the fumble by taking a single, but the umpire deemed the delivery to be dead and denied the single which left Gambhir frustrated.
It is uncertain whether the single run would have made the difference to turn the outcome of the game as Bairstow looked unstoppable as he returned to form by scoring an unbeaten 108 in 48 balls and he had the support in the powerplay by Prabhsimran scoring a quickfire 54 in 20 balls followed by Shashank clinical performance scoring 68 in 28 balls.

Other than Sunil Narine who had put in a fine performance with the bat earlier, chipped in with an economical four overs conceding just 24 runs and taking the wicket of Rilee Rossouw. But PBKS’ batting unit played him out and went after the other bowlers to complete the chase with 8 balls to spare and as many wickets remaining.

Gambhir will certainly not be pleased with the loss as it was an opportunity for the side to build a gap against the third and fourth-placed sides and potentially nail down the second spot in the points table which would then give them the chance to play the league leaders for a direct entry to the finals of the tournament.
