IND vs ENG T20 WC Semi-final: What Happens If Match is Abandoned? What is the Cut-off Time? Is There a Reserve Day? - All You Need to Know
IND vs ENG T20 World Cup Semi-final: Before we get our second finalist, let’s have a look at some questions that need to be answered.

The second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024 between India and England in Guyana has been delayed by rain. Repeated drizzling has forced the players and the officials to stay indoors while the fans are eagerly waiting for the clouds to subside so that the match gets underway. But if the game gets washed out due to rain, it would mean a bizarre turnaround.

Unlike the first semi-final, SA vs AFG in Trinidad, the ICC hasn’t allotted any reserve day for this game. Instead, an extra time of 250 minutes will be available for the Guyana fixture. The disparity – of playing conditions, match timings, and overall scheduling – has led to an outcry in the English media.

It’s yet to be seen how the second semi-final between India and England pans out. But before we get our second finalist, let’s have a look at some questions that need to be answered.

Why no reserve day for 2nd semi-final?

Since the tournament final is scheduled to be played on Saturday, there was no scope for a reserve day for the second knock-out match in Guyana. Basically, to ensure that the team won’t have to play and then travel and play again without enough time to rest.

What’s the cut-off time?

Well, that’s a tricky part. Since the IND vs ENG is a day game with a 10:30 am start time, a 250-minute extra time will be added to it. The cut-off time for a 20-overs contest has been extended until 2:40 PM local time (12:10 am IST). With the extra time available the match would start thereafter with no overs lost.

Unlike the group stage games, where a 5-overs aside game was a possibility, it should be a 10-overs aside match to obtain a result and the cut-off for which is 4:14 PM local time (1:44 am IST – Friday).

What if the rain washes out the second semi-final?

If the rain abandons the game, India will progress to the final and lock horns with South Africa on Saturday. The men in blue finished higher in the Super 8 points table without a defeat while England lost to South Africa in the Super 8 stage.

When is the final of the T20 World Cup 2024? Does it have a reserve day?

The T20 World Cup 2024 final will be played in Barbados and the ICC has allotted a reserve day for the finals. If the play is not possible on both days, the trophy will be shared between South Africa and the winner of the second semi-final.
