'Gill and Jaiswal Will Be The Future Pillars': R Ashwin Highly Optimistic About Young Batters' Futures With Team India
Player of the Series Ravinchandran Ashwin heaped praise on the young guns whilst also remaining highly optimistic of their respective futures in Indian cricket.

While the established stars such as Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah have all thrived as expected, one also cannot oversee the impact that youngsters such as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill have had on the Indian team.

Both Jaiswal and Gill have come into an aging Indian batting lineup, and have infused a jolt into the same, taking on bowlers at will and knocking them out of the park at will: qualities which were clearly showcased in their recent outing against Bangladesh.

Player of the Series Ravinchandran Ashwin himself acknowledged the very same, heaping praise on the young guns whilst also remaining highly optimistic of their respective futures in Indian cricket.

“Look, I think Yashasvi Jaiswal is a the special talent. He plays freewheelingly. Both him and Gill, I would say, are still in the native days or their formative years of playing Test cricket,” Ashwin stated in a post-match presser.

“But I do see that they will be the future pillars. The overseas tours that we are going to encounter shortly will also enhance and enrich their experience going forward in this, in their wonderful Test journey.”

Jaiswal and Gill both continued their fine form with the bat, notching up 189 and 164 runs respectively across the two Tests against Bangladesh.

Jaiswal went on to script history as the Indian opener smashed a blistering fifty in just 31 balls, becoming the fastest Indian opener to do so in Test cricket.

On top of it all, Jaiswal also broke Ajinkya Rahane’s record of scoring most runs for India in one edition of the World Test Championship with his 72-run knock off 51 balls.

Gill, on the other hand, who was under huge scrutiny coming into the series, shut all his doubters and critics up as he posted a stellar century in the first Test, as he led India’s charge with the bat.

For Ashwin, the talent those two possess is unmistakable, and it is only a matter of time and gaining experience that shall help them blossom into their best versions.

“They both are special, we all know that. It’s just that they need to be able to encounter newer experiences to help identify for themselves about what they need to work on,” exclaimed Ashwin.

“Whether you ask me, the raw material is there. I think it’s evident for everyone that both of them are high quality players.”
