Markets firm with good gains; metals shinning
The markets are trading firm with significant gains.

The markets are trading firm with significant gains on the back of strong performance by the metal, oil & gas, banking, real estate stocks. However, FMCG stocks are trading weak.

Rupee was trading strong at 39.31 against a US dollar. Market breadth was impressive with over 900 stocks on the advancing side and nearly 150 stocks on the downside on NSE.

At 11.18 am, the Sensex is up 285.84 points or 1.55% at 18704.88, and the Nifty up 98.25 points or 1.81% at 5526.50. About 2107 shares have advanced, 873 shares declined, and 66 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are Reliance Energy at Rs 1,724 up 5.36 per cent, HDFC Bank at Rs 1,470 up 2.74per cent and Reliance Comm at Rs 737.15 up 2.70 per cent.

Top losers on the Sensex are HUL at Rs 219 down 1.08 per cent, Bajaj Auto at Rs 2,525 down 0.68 per cent and ITC at Rs 184.20 down 0.65 per cent.

BSE metal index was trading up over 4.5 per cent at 15535.56. Major gainers in the metal pack are Tata Steel up 3.4 per cent at 877.05, Hindalco up 3.3 per cent at 184.8.

Most active shares on BSE are Jai Corporation at Rs 1,076.85 with 21,967,786 shares, Consolidated Cons at Rs 767.10 with 2,908,913 shares and Reliance Energy at Rs 1,732 with 506,548 shares.

BSE FMCG index was trading with a gain of 0.15 per cent at 2145.28. Major losers in this segment were HUl at 219 down 1.08 per cent and ITC at 185.10 down 0.16 per cent.

Market bounces back from Friday's cut

The markets bounce back today from Friday's deep cut and opened on strong note on account of buying seen across the sectors. Cues from the Asian markets were mixed. The market breadth was impressive in the opening move with over 245 stocks on the advancing side and about 39 stocks on the downside on NSE.

At 9:56 am, Sensex was up 212 points at 18670 and Nifty was up 63 points at 5491. Major gainers in the opening trade were Reliance Inds, Rel Energy, Rel Comm, SAIL, HDFC Bank, Satyam, Tisco, NTPC, TCS and SBI.

New Listing: Consolidated Construction lists at Rs 801 versus its issue price of Rs 510.

Asian markets: Asian indices are mixed today. Japan's Nikkei gained 0.25% or 43.72 points at 17,374.89, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 0.04% or 12.53 points at 28,850.90, Singapore's Straits Times rose 0.24% or 9.43 points at 3,866.68. However, South Korea's Seoul Composite slipped 0.54% or 10.87 points at 2,015.57. Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted was flat at 9,494.68.
