The West Bengal government on Tuesday announced that the promised hike of four per cent in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for its employees would be paid from April, instead of May as declared earlier.

Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, finance minister Chandrima Bhattacharya announced in the state budget about the increment in the DA for the employees.
“They will get it from the salary of June 1,” an official of the finance department told news agency PTI.
As a result of the hike, the difference between the DA provided by the Centre and state government was reduced to 32 per cent.
Dearness Allowance In Sikkim
The Sikkim government has approved a proposal to hike dearness allowance by four per cent for its employees and pensioners with retrospective effect from July 1, 2023, officials said on Tuesday.
The decision was taken during the first cabinet meeting of the second Sikkim Krantikari Morcha government.
With the four per cent hike, the dearness allowance for government employees and pensioners has gone up to 46 per cent, the officials said.
The increase in DA will have an impact of Rs 174.6 crore on the state exchequer in the current financial year, they added.
