Mumbai: The markets closed in green but were off the day's high as some profit booking occured at the higher levels. Banking stocks were in the limelight throughout the day. Frontliners like ICICI Bank, Maruti Udyog and TCS were amog the major gainers.
The Sensex closed up 47.35 points or 0.33 per cent at 14402.9, and the Nifty up 18.35 points or 0.44 per cent at 4164.55. About 1297 shares have advanced, 1277 shares declined, and 52 shares are unchanged. The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,950.95 down 2.06 points or 0.03 per cent.
The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 7,316.93 down 0.37 per cent. The BSE Bankex gained 1.5 per cent at 7,289.10. Centurion BoP, ICICI Bank, Oriental Bank, Federal Bank, Kotak Mahindra moved upwards.
The BSE Health Care Index flat at 3,803.48. FDC, Cadila Health, Lupin, Nicholas Pirama, Apollo Hospital closed lower. The BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 6,733.41 up 0.54 per cent. IOC, BPCL, HPCL, Reliance, Petronet LNG ended in green.
The BSE IT Index closed flat at 5,575.07. Moser Baer, HCL Tech, TCS, I-Flex Solution, Wipro, HCL Info advanced. The BSE Auto Index ended at 5,621.47 down 0.3 per cent. Apollo Tyres, Maruti Udyog, Amtek Auto, Hind Motors, TVS Motor ended hgher.
The BSE Metal Index was up 0.34 per cent to close at 8,906.67. SAIL, Guj NRE Coke, Jindal Steel, Mah Seamless, Hind Zinc ended in green. The BSE FMCG Index closed flat at 1,891.51. HLL and ITC closed in green. The BSE Capital Goods Index was flat at 9,645.79.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7752.77 crore and the NSE F and O turnover was at Rs 32491.38 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4213.23 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 44457.38 crore.
