'0.5% of Voters Pay Any Meaningful Income Tax': Ashneer Grover Speaks On 'Tax Politics' in India
Only 45 lakh income taxpayers contribute 80% of the total income tax

Ashneer Grover, the co-founder of BharatPe and former judge of the reality show Shark Tank India, on Wednesday said taxpayers is the meaningless minority as far as elections are concerned. He also said you can say anything on tax in a political rally and get away with it.

“You need to understand ‘Tax Politics’ in India. 8/140 crore file IT Return. 2/140 crore Indians pay Income Tax. Only 45 Lakh of them contribute 80% of this Income Tax. Total 97 crore voters. Do the maths — 0.5 per cent of voters pay any meaningful income tax,” Ashneer Grover said in a post on X on April 24.

He also said so, you can say anything on tax in a political rally and get away with it — tax payers is the meaningless minority as far elections are concerned.

The comments come on the day when Congress leader Sam Pitroda talked about the inheritance tax law in the United States and referred to the “redistribution of wealth” issue, receiving flaks in the political circle.
