Shahid Kapoor was long known for his chocolate boy era before he did films like Haidar, Kaminey and Kabir Singh. While fans often revisit that era via Instagram Reels, Shahid confessed he felt ‘extremely bad’ about the fact that he was tagged a chocolate boy. In a new interview, Shahid said that he didn’t want to be reduced to just a good looking actor but wanted his craft to be seen as well. He then decided to give himself a makeover.
“When I did Ishq Vishq, the word that was associated with me was ‘chocolate boy.’ I felt extremely bad, I wondered what did that even mean, ye chocolate boy hota kya hai? I am an artiste, I want to express, I am not here only for visual gratification. Looking good, dressing well, etc are just one layer, then you have to dig deep and I started doing just that. I completely changed myself, I didn’t want to be clean shaven and do the same thing. That became exciting for me,” he told Bollywood Hungama.
The actor conciously picked meaty roles that pushed him out of his comfort zone. Although there were layers of romance in the parts, Shahid had more to offer in these movies. After a long break from the rom-com genre, Shahid will be seen in a breezy romantic comedy film Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. The film stars Kriti Sanon in the lead.
Speaking at the trailer launch of the film, Shahid opened up about returning to the genre. “I was kind of missing doing something light and fun, definitely, but honestly, it’s the most difficult genre to crack. Because, I mean, I listen to 10 scripts a month, and people don’t know that there’s so much you hear from others – people tell me ‘aur picture karo’. But it’s so difficult to find scripts that could offer the audience something new, and love story is the most difficult genre, I feel, to do. And then, I just found this film was answering that question of mine, like what is it that you can do new in a love story,” he said.
Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, produced by Maddock Films, is all set to hit the theatres on February 9. The film also stars Dharmendra and Dimple Kapadia in pivotal roles.
